Your story might grow from a place, a routine, a memory, a relationship, a moment of change, or something entirely imagined. It can be quiet or dramatic, personal or observational, literal or abstract. We’re interested in how your images speak to one another and what becomes visible when they are placed in sequence.
All ages and experience levels are welcome. Phone, digital, film, instant, and alternative photographic processes are accepted.

PAINTING WITH LIGHT
An Introduction to Light Painting with Nolan Yamashiro
Friday, October 23, 2026, 7–9pm
Discover what becomes possible when light itself becomes your drawing tool. Join photographer Nolan Yamashiro for a hands-on introduction to light painting—a photographic technique that uses long exposures and moving light to create glowing lines, unusual forms, illuminated subjects, and images that cannot be seen in quite the same way with the naked eye.
Nolan will introduce the basic techniques behind light painting and guide participants as they experiment with exposure, movement, darkness, and different light sources. Come ready to play, collaborate, and explore how light can be used to create atmosphere and tell a story. For all skill levels. This will be an informal workshop/practice session to learn the basics of lightpainting and experiment with more advanced techniques.
What to bring
Required: Tripod (or means to stabilize camera), a camera that allows full manual control, flashlights or any other light source to use as paintbrushes. Optional: any object you may wish to paint and photograph.
No previous light-painting experience is necessary.
This free, all-ages workshop is part of Flemington DIY’s 2026 Photo Capture program, centered on narrative photography and telling a story through 3–5 images.

AFTERNOON WITH BOB SACHA
Join Emmy Award-winning filmmaker, director of photography, and photojournalist Bob Sacha for an artist talk focusing on Bob’s decades of storytelling.
Saturday, November 21, 2026, 2-4pm
Bob Sacha (He/Him) is an Emmy Award-winning filmmaker and director of photography who specializes in non-fiction visual stories told in the observational cinema style. He’s an editor, teacher and recovered magazine photographer and, above all, a collaborator on visual journalism projects.
He shot the video for the Guardian US team project that won the Pulitzer Prize for Public Service, a National News Emmy for New Approaches to News and Documentary Programming, a Webby and the first gold medal ever given by the Society for News Design. He teamed up with Blue Chalk as the the director of photography for the New York TImes series, Living City, about New York’s infrastructure. BlindSight, a documentary short about a group of blind photographers that he directed, filmed and produced with editor Kate Emerson, had its world premiere at DOCNYC, the country’s largest documentary festival. His new passion and focus is learning TikTok.
Bob has also directed, produced, filmed and edited nonfiction video stories for Al Jazeera America Online, Yahoo News, AudubonScience, Apple, the Asia Society, Starbucks, the Council on Foreign Relations and the Open Society Foundation, among other international clients. For several years he worked as a staff producer and editor at MediaStorm, where his projects were nominated for three national news Emmys and won numerous awards including an Alfred I. duPont- Columbia Award.
Bob who graduated Phi Beta Kappa from Syracuse University, leapfrogged into multimedia and film more than two decades ago after winning a Knight Fellowship to Ohio University, where he studied web storytelling and documentary film and earned a master’s in visual communication.
Bob spent more than a a dozen years as an Associate Professor for Video Storytelling at the Craig Newmark Graduate School of Journalism, the first public school of journalism founded since the introduction of the web where he taught a variety of class including MultiMedia Storytelling, Advanced Video Newsroom, Video Storytelling for the Web, Cinematography and also the first VR/360 video class at any journalism school in the the NYC area. He has mentored students at the Columbia University Graduate School of Journalism on their interactive, hybrid and documentary film master’s projects. He’s lectured and taught workshops and classes at SVA, the International Center of Photography’s Documentary Practice and Visual Journalism CAMERA, the Italian Center for Photography and around the world for National Geographic Expeditions.
In his past lives, Bob was a staff photographer at the Philadelphia Inquirer, a contributing photographer at both Life and National Geographic Magazine and a freelancer for more magazines than remain on newsstands. He lives in Manhattan with his wife the chef, food blogger and Bluesky addict Regina Schrambling and their Siamese cat Feliz. FINDING THE STORY
A Narrative Photography Walk with Christianne Ebel
Sunday, November 29, 2026, 1-4pm – Meet at Flemington DIY
Every place contains stories—but how do we recognize and photograph them?
Join photographer and educator Christianne Ebel for a guided photo walk focused on narrative photography and visual storytelling. Together, we’ll explore how perspective, sequencing, detail, atmosphere, and moments of connection can transform individual photographs into a larger story.
Participants will photograph along the way while considering what happens before, within, and after an image—and how several photographs can work together to communicate something more.
Bring any camera you are comfortable using, including a phone. No professional equipment or previous photography experience is required.
2025 PHOTO CAPTURE RECAP
This project featured several photo walks and workshops throughout the month of November with the goal of capturing images throughout Hunterdon County. The photo capture culminated in a projected art show outside of Flemington DIY in December in tandem with the 4rd Annual Take Me Home Tonight small works exhibit. This creative challenge got participants outside, offering a chance to hone photographic skills and join in on guided photo walks and workshops with local photographers.
