Did you know Flemington DIY has a monthly Songwriter Circle the 2nd Tuesday of every month? We play each other the songs we’ve been working on, and the group shares suggestions as to how to make them even better. We thought it might be a nice opportunity to share some of what we’ve been working on with an actual audience….you! 

The folks performing this evening include: 

John Hone started out on the drums but added guitar as you can’t sing your kids to sleep with the drums. He stills performs on drums but loves composing and performing original songs and instrumentals on guitar. 

Sarah Wedeking (she/they) is a hobbyist songwriter who has always failed to write a happy song. You can find them jamming on a ukulele or the occasional guitar, drawing her influences from artists like Lizzy McAlpine to Joni Mitchell to obscure musical theatre. 

Roia Rafieyan (she/her) is a guitarist and songwriter. Her songs are attempts at working out things she’s thinking about, conversations she probably should be having, and sometimes written to get something out of her system. 

After a long hiatus from songwriting, Matt Haden bumped into an ad somewhere about the Flemington DIY Songwriter Circle.  He still doesn’t know what exactly inspired him to open up his guitar case, but he’s glad he did, because the vibe and accountability of the circle is exactly what he needed to get his hands and brain moving once again in a musical way.  A year or so and 10 or 12 songs later (thank you songwriting circle random word generator) he looks forward to presenting some of his works for the first time in many years.

Tracy Mistichelli is an amateur musician who plays drums, guitar, and piano. She loves bouncing between rhythm and melody and figuring out how songs are built from the inside out. She is always learning, always playing.

Jay DiMartino is a Flemington local returning to music after a long hiatus. He has been writing and playing music in some fashion for over 30 years. Influences include Neil Young, Pearl Jam and the Dave Matthew’s band.
