SUMMARY:Chess Tournament
DESCRIPTION:Come and show off your skills Saturday April 12th\, 2025 from 10:15am to 2pm. Chess sets and chess clocks are provided so that all you have to do is sit and play! NOTE the tournament is capped at 48 entries so try to enter early if possible. Hope to see you there! REGISTER \nWhat is the format of the tournament? It ran in what is known as a chess quad. All of the players that enter will be broken up into groups of 4 based on their ratings and will play everyone in their group once. Players who obtain the most points in their group win the prize (win=1 point\, draw=0.5 point\, loss=0 points). It is done in this format so that the games stay relatively competitive and are not completely lopsided. \nThis tournament does require a USCF (United States Chess Federation) membership to join. Pricing and joining methods can be found via link (https://new.uschess.org/join-us-chess). If this is your USCF rated chess event your rating will begin as “unrated” for the tournament. \nCan these chess games go on forever? No. All games are timed at Game 30 delay 5. This means\, for each game\, both players will have 30 minutes to make all of their moves for the game. Delay 5 means that your time will not start counting down until 5 seconds have passed on your turn. There are three methods of winning a chess game. Checkmating the opponent’s king\, your opponent resigns\, or your opponent runs out of time. \nAny question be sure to contact the tournament director at moledomiguel@gmail.com

SUMMARY:Art for Footprints Of Uganda
DESCRIPTION:Art for Footprints Of Uganda\n\n \nArt show and fundraiser for nonprofit “Footprints Of Uganda” with 50% of proceeds going toward building a well in Uganda \nOpening April 4\, 5-7pm and on display thru April\nLocal artist OurNaturalState will be showcasing his new series about joy and what joy looks like\, commemorating the joy the tribes would feel in Uganda when “Footprints Of Uganda” get their new well water\, installed. \nThe opening reception will feature food\, music\, 1\,000 balloons \, friends\, family\, and more! \n\nOurNaturalState is a mixed medium artist that uses his art to help people become more aware of themselves\, through art. This self taught artist has mixed the bridge of self-discovery and using art to dive deeper into who he really is. Through his wild characters he helps get stuck feelings\,unstuck with abstract art. From radical acceptance as in “whatever lands on the paper is meant to be on the paper”. As well as body mapping techniques\, where he feels the entire body and paints it onto the canvas. His only mission is to help as many people\, become more aware of themselves\, and bring them back to their natural selves. \nFootprints of Uganda is a nonprofit organization dedicated to empowering rural communities in Uganda through sustainable development initiatives. We focus on providing access to clean water\, education\, and community support programs that create lasting change. From building wells to sponsoring children’s education and fostering local sports teams\, we are committed to making a meaningful impact. Every donation and partnership helps us leave a footprint of hope and opportunity in the lives of those who need it most.

SUMMARY:Songwriters Mike Berman along with Andrew Dunn & Todd Dennison
DESCRIPTION:An evening of Singers\, Songwriters\, and StorytellersThursday\, March 27thDoors open at 7 PM; Music starts at 7:30 PM$15 at the door (Cool Cat Cardholders are welcome to use your cards) \nCalifornia based Mike Berman (https://mikebermanmusic.com) writes and performs original songs rooted in the folk and California folk rock traditions.  Mike’s album Ghosts\, arriving in April\, 2025\, contains eight original tracks addressing themes such as growing up amidst gun violence\, lost relationships\, the dangers of looking back\, and the redemption and mercy that love and music can bring to your soul. Produced by Ed Tree and with performances by Mike and outstanding Los Angeles musicians\, Ghosts is a sonically and thematically rich addition to Mike’s musical library. Performances in California and in the Northeast (including the Cape May Singer-Songwriter Festival) are coming in 2025. \nMike’s first album Where I’m From\, released in January 2023\, received excellent reviews and was featured on dozens of folk radio programs across the USA and beyond. Mike is a veteran musician\, having performed in the 80’s with the Hudson River Sloop Singers (associated with Pete Seeger) as well as in his duo The Rusty Lock String Band\, including festival gigs at the New Jersey Folk Festival and the Raritan River Festival. After a long layoff to raise a family and build a career as a university administrator and information technology expert\, he has dived head-first in songwriting in the last few years. His songwriting his developed through workshops and master classes with the likes of Richard Thompson\, Tom Paxton\, Patty Griffin\, Shawn Colvin\, Guy Davis\, Ellis Paul\, Laurie McAllister\, Gretchen Peters\, Michael McNevin\, and many other accomplished songwriters and performers. \nAndrew Dunn (https://andrewdunnsongwriter.weebly.com) is a songwriter from Jersey\, where talent seems to grow in the fertile soil. His poignant wit and infectious melodies are staples of his canon of memorable story songs drawn from everyday theater of life moments.  \nA favorite on the NJ folk scene\, Andrew has been repeatedly featured on the legendary stages of The Folk Project and Godfrey Daniels. He has opened for folk icon\, Judy Collins and shared songwriting nights with veteran songwriters Tice\, Bill Hall\, and former Melanie sideman\, Ron Heacock.  In 2018\, Andrew was a finalist in the prestigious Kerrville Grassy Hill Songwriter’s Competition. He was also a finalist in the Great American Song Contest. The music\, like his point of view\, is full of space and completely irresistible. His songs have been called “rare…with a gravity akin to James Taylor.” Dunn’s latest CD\, House Above the Factory\, reintroduces his momentum as an artist and places an Americana shine on his unique panorama of everyday experiences. \nHe is accompanied this evening by guitarist\, bassist\, accompanist\, and arranger\, Todd Dennison (https://www.toddsguitarsings.com). With influences like James Taylor and Kenny Rankin\, Todd’s approach to playing guitar\, bridges folk and jazz with running bass lines and melodic chordal voicings. When accompanying a vocalist\, Todd creates a musical conversation\, a dialogue\, between singer and guitar.
