SUMMARY:Open Hours - Garden State Art Weekend
DESCRIPTION:POP-UP : Mill to Mill Peace Flag Project with Art Circle \nCasual Gathering to work on your Peace Flag for the Mill to Mill Peace Flag Project\, a public art display of handmade peace flags that will be displayed as a shared expression of hope\, unity and goodwill. Community members are asked to create peace flags that will be displayed together outside The Red Mill Museum Village and the Hunterdon Art Museum.  Inspired by traditional prayer flags\, community members are invited to participate in creating a piece reflects the maker’s personal interpretation of the question: \n“What does peace look like to you?” \nThrough symbols\, colors\, words\, images or textures\, every flag becomes a message of peace carried outward into the world. \nThe Mill to Mill Peace Flag Project is part of Handwork 2026\, Craft in America’s nationwide semiquincentennial collaboration showcasing the importance of the handmade and celebrating the diversity of craft that defines America. \nHow to Make a Peace Flag \n\n\nEach flag begins with a 9-inch square of natural fabric—materials like cotton muslin\, linen or wool are ideal. To prepare your fabric: \n\n\nCut your fabric to 9” wide x 10.25” tall. \n\n\nFold down the top 1.25” to create a 1” channel. \n\n\nSew the fold in place. This channel will allow the flags to be strung together like bunting. \n\n\n*Important: Because the flags will hang outdoors and may eventually release fibers into the environment\, only natural materials should be used. Please avoid glues (including hot glue)\, staples\, plastics\, synthetics and chemical inks. Use natural threads and non-toxic\, water-based dyes and paints whenever possible. Flags may not contain symbols of hate or divisiveness. This is a curated exhibit; submission does not guarantee inclusion. \nWhen complete participant can submit their flag  \nhttps://docs.google.com/forms/d/e/1FAIpQLSe51MZaAfzl0BGRNBzDX76gCBZ_5GHve9H5ZdK3LV_ghk3H2A/viewform

SUMMARY:Open Hours - Garden State Art Weekend
DESCRIPTION:Bilateral Drawing Exercise with Aidan Mirowsky of Little Fire Studios \nBilateral drawing is a drawing exercise intended to reset your nervous system.  By holding a drawing implement in each hand; the person tries to make marks that mirror each other along an invisible vertical line on the page. This meditative process that asks your body and mind to slow down; reconnecting with the moment as you concentrate on the paper and focusing on the process more what the image is.   \n \nThis activity is inspired by a workshop at the Newark Art Museum as part of the 2025 Creating Healthy Communities convening and is intended to create an opportunity to try this reset for yourself.  Utilizing simple supplies; reclaimed colored pencils and crayons with 18”  x  24”  pages lining tables that are marked with vertical lines.  Participants will engage in Bilateral drawing on a large piece of paper for one\, after the minute is up\, participants will switch to the paper to their right and repeat as many times as they want to participate. No one person will create all the lines in the final drawing. The experience is theirs but the drawing is not theirs alone.  As people leave\, others are welcome to fill in. As the pages fill with lines they will be replaced with new blank pages. The blank pages will be tacked on a table lined with stripes.  \n \nAll drawings will be saved for a future video art piece. The video is intended to create a visual of the pulse that tie us all together like a heartbeat of a Mother with child; but in this case it’s Mother Earth and all the participants are the children revealing the pulse our creativity creates as a community and the invisible line that art making creates as we center ourselves with through art.

SUMMARY:Ekphrastic Poetry Workshop
DESCRIPTION:Ekphrastic poetry\, simply put\, is writing poetry about the visual arts.   \nTogether\, we will discuss the current exhibiting artworks at Flemington DIY\, using questions and prompts\, both prepared and improvised\, to help us creatively write in response to the local art.   \nAfter a mix of group discussion and individual writing exercises\, we will share our poetry and hear what we all came up with. \nIn this process\, we hope to create understanding of both ourselves and each other\, through writing and thinking creatively in new ways stimulated by local arts.

SUMMARY:Art Opening - Printer In Residence Show
DESCRIPTION:Set in Stone\, Mariah McLaughlin’s culmination of a yearlong Printer-in-Residence\, brings together a body of work that combines ceramics and screenprinting to expand the limits of traditional printmaking. By moving printed imagery onto clay and treating ceramic surfaces as sites for layering\, repetition\, and variation\, the work expands screenprinting beyond a t-shirt or paper. \nAt the center of this process is an interest in line\, texture\, and composition. Using a small set of visual sources\, each piece becomes an opportunity to rearrange\, distort\, and rebuild imagery in new ways. Repetition is not used to produce sameness\, but to generate difference: subtle shifts in placement\, color\, surface\, and material create unexpected relationships between mark and object. \nThe resulting works exist between printing and sculpture\, image and artifact. Set in Stone reflects an ongoing exploration of how a traditional print process can be translated\, disrupted\, and reimagined through clay.

SUMMARY:Monthly Food Drive
DESCRIPTION:Did you know that Flemington has seven Little Food Pantries (LFPs)? LFPs are small food pantries that allow community members in need to have open access to food\, water\, and hygiene items. These pantries depend on the support of donations from people like you! Come together with your community for a monthly food drive to stock four of the pantries. How does it work?Volunteers come together at the drive to sort donations that are dropped off from 6-7:15PM. Donations are counted and then sorted into bins for distribution to the pantries. Volunteers take each bin to the pantries to restock them.
