SUMMARY:Laramie Project Staged Reading
DESCRIPTION:Join Members & Friends of the Flemington community for a staged reading of The Laramie Project\, detailing the all too relevant story of the death of Matthew Shepard and its impact on a community through the voices of those who were there to witness it. In October of 1998\, college student Matthew Shepard was brutally tortured and murdered in the small town of Laramie\, Wyoming. He was a young gay man. The incident became a national – and international – story and the Laramie community became fiercely divided in their opinions of the crime. \nJust a month later\, playwright Moises Kaufman and other company members of the Tectonic Theater Project traveled from New York to Laramie\, and for the next year\, they conducted some 200 interviews with the people there. The play The Laramie Project was created from these interviews and tells Matthew’s story as well as the story of a community in crisis and how it began to heal. This play brings to light both the humanity of those left in the wake of violence as well as the brutality of homophobic rhetoricand hatred. \nThis performance will feature local actors and community members: \nDelfina Ines PicchioJim BlossArielle RabanoTodd GregoireRosi EfthimThom BoyerMichael KrahelAllie RussellJanet Quartarone \nA suggested donation of $5 will be collected at the door. SUMMARY:Open Jazz Jams
DESCRIPTION:Open Jazz Jams are held he first Sunday of every month. \nThe sessions will provide an opportunity for musicians to play with an experienced band. From 1-2 PM the hosting musicians for the week will play. Other musicians will be invited to sit in and play between 2-5 PM (typically a minimum of 2 songs each\, circumstances permitting). With the exception of drum kit and piano\, all musicians should bring their own equipment (instruments\, amps\, drum sticks\, microphones\, etc.). The sessions will focus primarily on jazz standards and other jazz tunes contained in Hal Leonard Real Books volumes 1 through 3. Newcomers will be coached through the process.  \nA $3 to $5 donation to Flemington DIY will be required from each musician that plays at the session. Visitors that just want to listen to the music are also welcome to attend for all or any part of the 1-5 PM sessions free of charge.  \nFor questions about the sessions\, or to be added to the monthly text notification list for last minute cancellations or reschedules\, please email njjazzjam@gmail.com

DESCRIPTION:Calling all Hunterdon County pop/rock/folk stars!  Are you looking for a place to practice your acoustic guitar skills\, and maybe do some singing too?   \nOur merry band of music makers is open to players of all abilities! This gathering however is for Acoustic players ONLY; i.e guitars\, ukuleles\, mandolins & banjos. A drummer and/or an acoustic/electric bassist would be welcomed though to help us all stay in time. \nChords and lyrics to the songs will be projected on a screen so there’s no need for you to bring a music stand or tablet. We will be selecting tunes from a song book that includes a wide variety of rock/pop/folk classics. \nCome and have fun with us as we play and sing along to some of everyone’s favorite tunes! \nSuggested donation of $3-5www.flemingtondiy.org/acoustic/
